Open Positions:

Landscape Lead Technician

2-3 year experience required. Working team member that leads a crew of 2-3 crew members daily. Utilize different tools, techniques, and skills in order to successfully install commercial and residential landscapes. Pay range $23-$30/hr. 

What is a Landscape Lead Technician?

“Landscape Lead Technician” is someone who works on and leads a crew of landscape professionals. The lead tech will be responsible for overseeing 2-3 crew members daily. The lead is in charge of making sure the project is being completed safely, correctly, efficiently, on time, and on budget. Projects will range from paver patio and retaining wall installation, to commercial planting, watering, and bed maintenance. It’s a hard job, can be dirty, and we do not want to sugar coat it, it is very labor-intensive work. We work hard but we have fun!: (Apply Now Button goes to application page)

Pay Scale: $23-$30 per hour

Full Time: 40-55hrs per week (occasional Saturdays)

Daily Morning Tasks: 

  • Report on time at regular start time (start time could change depending on weather)
  • Dressed in proper uniform and footwear
  • Open shop gate and doors
  • Meet with Project Manager for weekly/daily projects and/or lists assigned
  • Preparation of equipment
    • Complete equipment checklist
    • Top off fluids
    • Check air in all tires
  • Load all tools, gas and other necessary equipment/materials. Secure all equipment safely.
  • Double check ALL equipment to make sure its properly secure (INCLUDING TRAILER)
  • Inform, teach, and reiterate loading and safety to crew

Daily Job Tasks:

  • Drive company vehicles as directed
  • Thoroughly explain job and assign tasks
  • Work in conjunction with the team to ensure the work is completed efficiently and according to the specifications outlined in the job duty sheet.
  • Perform all tasks on client’s properties the Whitfield’s Way.
  • Making sure entire crew properly uses safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Make sure all equipment and machinery is being used safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain positive, responsive, and flexible attitude to all coworkers and supervisors
  • Properly record all time in and time out for jobs that require it
  • Close out each job upon completion-final walk-thru w/client, collect final payment
  • Return all work documents and payments to office
  • Inform, teach, and reiterate specific job skills, speed, efficiency, and safety

Daily Tasks (End of Day):

  • Unload equipment and materials
  • Clean trash and other debris off truck and trailer
  • Clean trash and other debris off equipment
  • Complete timesheet
  • Verify timesheets from all technicians

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Able to work overtime or extended shifts if required by Management
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions – working temperatures may be between 0 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit 
  • Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in extreme cold or wintry precipitation
  • Ability to lift and carry 80 lbs. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop and twist continuously throughout the day

  • Winter Season Operations
    • Plow snow using trucks or loaders
    • Shovel snow using hand shovels or snow blowers
    • Apply salt and other de-icing agents to paved surfaces
    • Assist with pre-storm preparedness 
    • Assist with post-storm clean up and restocking

Client Management

  • Professionally represents Whitfield’s Lawn & Garden always.
  • Able to respond properly to the client and follow up to make sure their needs have been completed to their satisfaction
  • Able to recognize when they do not have the answer for the client and let them know they will find out or get the Project Manager involved
  • Keeps the Project Manager aware of all client concerns and communication on the job site
  • Maintains positive, responsive, and flexible attitude to all clients
  • Inspects site and advises Project Manager of potential liabilities

Crew Supervision

  • Ensures that the crew meets projected man hour and materials budgets on assigned job duties
  • Prepares and secures all materials, tools and equipment first thing in the morning for that day’s schedule
  • Tops off with fuel, turns in paperwork to office, cleans service vehicle and prepares for next day’s activity
  • Able to assign tasks to crew members and follow up to make sure that work was completed properly
  • Ensure that all crew members  report to work on time and follow all company rules and procedures. 
  • Takes appropriate disciplinary actions as necessary and involves Project Manager when necessary

  Technician Training

  • Ensures crew members are trained on company safety policies
  • Trains crew members to do job effectively and efficiently 
  • Able to cross train technicians in the performance of Lead Techs role for future growth
  • Can effectively communicate in English and/or Spanish

Performance Reviews 

  • Able to evaluate the performance of the crew
  • Able to assist the Project Manager in a performance review for crew members
  • Able to monitor goals based on evaluation process

Safety Management

  • Maintains and promotes safe working conditions in the field at all times
  • Follows company procedures on discipline if any safety rules are broken
  • Have zero preventable accidents

Image Compliance

  • Maintains clean, neat, and professional image of service vehicle & trailer
  • Ensure crew members maintain professional image using approved Whitfield’s Lawn & Garden uniforms and by monitoring & maintaining proper employee actions

Equipment Management

  • Ensures all assigned equipment, tools, safety items, vehicles & trailers or other items are maintained in proper working order by following proper maintenance and inventory schedules
  • Is accountable for neglect and abuse of assigned equipment

Administrative

  • Able to read and write
  • Can organize and implement work schedule
  • Responsible for the following forms and procedures
    • Accident Reporting Forms

How will my rate of pay be determined?

Each job category has a range of pay associated with it. Hiring managers have corporate guidance on assigning the appropriate rate of pay based on a variety of factors including:

Landscape Technician

No experience required. Works directly with a crew of landscape professionals. Installation and maintenance of soft and hardscaping projects. Pay range $18-$22/hr.

What is a Lawn Maintenance Lead Technician?

The Lawn Maintenance Lead Technician, is a working team member that oversees lawn mowing, clean-ups, mulching, trimming, weed control and similar tasks. This position is responsible for leading a crew of up to 4 persons in daily operations. Candidates must be willing to learn and maintain all skills pertaining to job tasks and daily tasks.

Lawn Maintenance Technician

No experience required. Works directly with a crew of lawn professionals. Professionally mowing, trimming, and maintaining the turf for our commercial and residential clients. Pay range $18-$22/hr.

This position is responsible for assisting the Lawn Maintenance Lead Technician in daily operations. Candidates must be willing to learn and maintain all skills pertaining to job tasks and daily tasks. Tasks include but are not limited to mowing, trimming, mulching, weeding.

Requirements:

Abilities: Fun. Must be able to have fun. The projects our teams take on can be challenging but having the right attitude can make a huge difference.

Desires: Learning and growing is key. We want you to do both. You will be introduced to numerous techniques and skills. Gain, retain, and utilize these techniques and skills to become the best landscaper, lawn technician, and/or snow removal operator you can be!

Strengths: We utilize skid loaders, excavators, and other machines to do most of the heavy lifting. However we still require our technicians to be able to lift 50-100lb consistently.
